Seal Cove is another broad reach of ocean facing west on Mount Desert Island.  The land stretches out as a long, somewhat fragile attenuation between the dominance of sea and sky.  But the rhythm of trees and fields, and the resulting modulation of light along the frail band of earth creates a signature of the place, a kind of “bar code” that identifies it.
