This painting was begun on site at Seawall beginning at 5:30 am and completed over the next couple months. Seawall is a broad, relatively flat reach of ocean landscape facing south, with extended pine shores and a few of the typically scruffy islands of Maine. The graphic conceit of the painting contains a single day. It develops a kind of abstract pictorialism, moving from literal or folk imagery in morning to more organic, archetypal imagery in the evening darkness.
